My quest for a filtered shower head ended in disappointment when I tried to buy a unit from both Lowe’s and Home Depot. Neither company had the brand, Sprite, was recommended to me. When I went to Lowe’s, their inventory show no units in the state of Arizona! So what was a girl to do? I went to Amazon, and ordered one. The unit arrived on Friday, but it didn’t fit my shower! Argh!
My husband and I were out on Saturday, and decided to stop by a local Ace Hardware to see if they had a filtered shower head. We found one there, and it was by Culligan. I installed it on Sunday, and washed my hair. OH MY GOODNESS! I saw an immediate improvement in my hair. It was so incredibly soft and no frizz! I pre-poo’d with a hot oil treatment under my steamer, and washed my hair with diluted Terressentials Organic Hair Wash. I combined my deep-conditioning step with my leave-in conditioner by using my steamer to apply the conditioner. This eliminates an extra step. My leave-in conditioner was Aubrey Organics’ Honeysuckle Moisturizing Conditioner. I sealed with grape seed oil, and twisted my hair with mango butter.
When I untwisted my hair, I couldn’t keep my fingers out of my tresses. My hair hasn’t been this soft and moisturized since going natural. I could kick myself for doing this when a friend told me about the filtered shower heads!
I’ve also decided to return to washing (co-washing) my hair twice a week. I want to make sure that I’m taking extra special care of my hair since it has permanent color.
I will use this product on my edges every day, and I’ll massage it in for five minutes.
In the video, I incorrectly stated that this product could be purchased at http://www.naturallycurly.com. The product can be purchased at http://www.curljunkie.com/BeautiCurls-Leave-In-Hair-Conditioner-p/bcli.htm
I purchased the Huetiful Steamer, and I was not paid for this review.
In a prior post, I shared that I have low porosity hair. I shared that I didn’t change my products in a drastic way because much of what I used worked for low porosity hair. I have stopped using aloe vera in my regimen, and I no longer put straight castor oil on my hair. My leave-in conditioner is solely Kinky Curly Knot Today, and I now seal with grapeseed oil instead of my seven oil blend. I warm my conditioner for both my pre-poo and my deep conditioning treatments. With these tweaks and changes, I can say that my hair looks a little better. Ir’s no longer as dry. I also don’t have to moisturize my hair every day, and this is a nice change.
I have tweaked my regimen (again), and incorporated bentonite clay treatments into my regimen. I recently purchased a hair steamer for my pre-poo and deep conditioner treatments, as heat – not direct – is a low porosity girl’s best friend. It allows the cuticle to open up a little easier so that moisture can enter into the hair shaft. I no longer use cool water rinses, but warm water rinses to help raise the cuticle.
Below is my current regimen. I’ve stopped co-washing, and wash my hair once a week. I alternate between the bentonite clay and Terressentials when cleansing my hair. I give myself a hot oil treatment once a week with my seven oil blend

Yesterday was spa day for my hair, and I decided to try a couple of samples that I received from my CurlKit subscription. I decided to use the Moisturizing Shealoe Leave-in Conditioner by Koils by Nature and the CoCo Castor Pudding by Bel Nouvo to do my twists. Below is a video with an overview of my spa day. The definition in my hair is amazing.
Products used:
Pre-poo with Theraneem Organix Conditioner Moisture Therape
Bentonite Clay Hair Mask for cleansing
Shea Moisture Yucca & Baobab Anti-Breakage Masque with Biotin & Bamboo Extract
Shealoe Leave-in Conditioner
Sealed with grapeseed oil
CoCo Castor Pudding for two-strand twist
Last week, I sported a new hairstyle. It was a really cute up-do. I used EcoStyler Gel to slick down the sides so that I could have a really chic look. My hair stayed in place, and I received compliments on the look. Well, I decided that I could use the same EcoStyler Gel on a two-strand twist. When I colored my hair, I did a two strand twist using the EcoStyler. I allowed my hair to dry overnight, and took the twists down the next morning. The results were okay, but I didn’t have the normal shine that I experience with my twists My ends were frizzy as well. The really big surprise was all the tangles and single strand knots that I’ve experienced! I am so upset! I’ve never had this experience before with a product. My hair feel as if it’s rebelling against me. My hair spa day was scheduled for Sunday, but I need an emergency intervention today. The plan is to pre-poo with conditioner and a hot oil treatment, wash with Terressentials, co-wash with Aubrey Organics, and deep condition with JessiCurl Deep conditioner. I know that it sounds extreme, but my hair needs the tender loving care.
